From the function of language to the function of text: the case of Skopos theory

Abstract

The present paper tackles one of the most coherent functionalist theories: the skopos theory. Its tenants, Hans Vermeer and Katharina Reïss, introduced it on the basis of the works and studies made in linguistics. They tried to bridge the gap between theory and practice by proposing strategies and methods helping to translate successfully. According to this theory, the intentionality of a translational action stated in a translation brief, and the rules guide a translator to attain the expected target text translatum. So, what is the linguistic basis of this theory? What are its different rules? What are the different strategies proposed to overcome difficulties facing the translator in all fields?

تتناول ورقتنا البحثية واحدة من أكثر النظريات الوظيفية انسجاما، ألا وهي: نظرية الهدف، وتعرف كذلك بنظرية الغاية ونظرية السكوبوس. تأسست هذه النظرية على يد عالمي اللغة الألمانيين هانس فيرمير وكاثرينا رايس، اللذين بدراستهما للترجمة حاولا الانتفاع ممّا جاد به علم اللّغة من أبحاث ودراسات كي يستغلاها في سبيل تضييق الهوة بين الجانب النظري والجانب التطبيقي في الترجمة. تمخض عن محاولاتهما عدد من الاستراتيجيات والمناهج التّي تهدف لتذليل الصعوبات أمام المترجم من جهة، وخدمة المتلّقي الهدف من جهة أخرى. من خلال بحثنا نحاول أن نجيب عمّا يلي: فما هي الأسس اللّغوية التّي تعتمد عليها نظرية الهدف؟ ما القواعد التّي اقترحتها هذه النظرية؟ ما هي الاستراتيجيات المقترحة للتغلب على المشاكل التّي تطرحها الترجمة في كلّ المجالات؟
