Abstract

Midway between identity and alterity, man writes his own story, describes that of the Other, and ponders their relationship. Among writers from different backgrounds, who better than Amara Lakhous can bear witness to this relationship? Is the integration of the Roma in Italy acceptable? Could Italian society live in symbiosis despite its heterogeneity? In this study, we will examine the image of the Self and the Other in his novel The Affair of the Maiden in Ormea Street. By emphasizing the identity relationship, we will move from a root identity to a rhizomatic one through subjective consciousness. We will thus analyze the discourse of the Roma, as projected through a poetics of Otherness via a writing-relation.
