Résumé

Le littéraire et le social, deux éléments qui demeurent étroitement liés de par le rapport de complémentarité qu’ils entretiennent, mais aussi, le fait que l’un soit le reflet de l’autre. Cet article s’intéresse à la manière dont l’image de l’esclavage moderne est imprégnée dans le roman de Sophie Van der Linden, qui immerge le lecteur dans l’univers d’une petite chinoise de dix-sept ans. Une paysanne qui vit, dort et travaille dans une usine de confection textile. En adoptant une approche thématique, nous essayerons de mettre en exergue les détails qui renvoient à l’oppression et l’exploitation subies par les ouvrières, notamment le cas de Mei, la narratrice-protagoniste sur laquelle nous focaliserons notre attention. Les résultats obtenus reconstitueraient cette image de l’esclavage moderne qui se dégage de l’œuvre et qui pourrait être interprétée comme une sorte de dénonciation sous-jacente, de remise en question de la condition humaine.

Abstract:

The literary and the social, two elements which remain closely linked by the complementary relationship they maintain, but also, the fact that one is the reflection of the other. This article focuses on the way in which the image of modern slavery is imbued in Sophie Van der Linden's novel, which immerses the reader in the universe of a seventeen-year-old Chinese girl. A peasant, who lives, sleeps and works in a textile factory. By adopting a thematic approach, we will try to highlight the details which refer to the oppression and exploitation suffered by the workers, in particular, the case of Mei, the narrator-protagonist on whom we will focus our attention. The results obtained would reconstruct this image of modern slavery which emerges from the work and which could be interpreted as a sort of underlying denunciation, of questioning the human condition.
