A travers cet article, les nouvelles de Naguib Mahfouz vont être survolées selon un choix chronologique de leur production pour mettre en valeur sa réflexion critique sur la société égyptienne tout au long de son parcours ; notamment lorsqu’il renoue avec sa source d’inspiration favorite, le vieux Caire de son enfance qui apparaît au sommet de son art. Mahfouz porte depuis ses débuts un regard critique sur sa société, une critique dissimulée tantôt par l’ironie et tantôt par la légèreté du discours .Notre auteur inaugure aussi une période de doute métaphysique et mystique teintée d’une critique sociale et politique. Le lecteur est invité à découvrir un auteur qui peint et met en scène ses concitoyens plongeant dans une vie de désœuvrement, de pauvreté et de disparité sociale à travers un ensemble de frustration dans laquelle les personnages contribuent à leur propre tragédie humaine.
Abstract:
Through this article, we will open a window on Naguib Mahfouz's short stories and follow the chronology of their writing in order to show the writer's critical manifestations on Egyptian society throughout his literary career, which in its entirety was not devoid of his favorite source of inspiration, Old Cairo, which characterized his childhood and instilled in his writings. Mahfouz has been criticizing his society since its beginnings, a criticism that is sometimes hidden by his ironic style and sometimes the recklessness of the characters and their handling of matters. Likewise, our writer also opens an era of metaphysical and mystical skepticism tainted by social and political criticism. The reader is invited to discover characters immersed in a life of laziness, poverty, frustration and social disparities, in which the characters contribute to shaping their human tragedy.
