Nous aborderons dans cette article la conception du silence dans un texte autobiographique Lettre à mon père de Leila Sebbar, où la narratrice évoque, en dialogue rétrospectif autofictif, le pourquoi du silence du père, envers qui elle s’adresse directement outre-mort et tente une meilleure compréhension de cet « exil volontaire », source de tourments et de souffrance. Nous aborderons l’aspect générique hybride du texte qui mêle lettre, dialogue, correspondance, essai biographique, empreint d’une conception autobiographique postmoderne ainsi que l’aspect polyphonique de l’œuvre. L’article traitera également des contraintes mémorielles auxquelles se soumet la narratrice pour tenter d’apporter des réponses au mutisme imposant du père. Notre analyse aborde aussi la portée argumentative de la lettre qui confronte « le moi » et son double où la recherche de légitimation d’une appartenance. Nous aboutirons finalement sur le répertoire des nuances des formes de silences présents dans l’œuvre pour une meilleure appréhension.

Abstract :

In this article, we will explore the concept of silence in the autobiographical text "Lettre à mon père" by Leïla Sebbar, where the narrator evokes, through a retrospective autofictive dialogue, the reasons behind her father's silence. She addresses him directly beyond death and attempts to better understand this "voluntary exile," a source of torment and suffering. We will examine the hybrid generic aspect of the text, which combines letter, dialogue, correspondence, and biographical essay, marked by a postmodern autobiographical conception, as well as the polyphonic nature of the work. The article will also discuss the mnemonic constraints to which the narrator submits in an attempt to provide answers to the father's imposing muteness. Our analysis will address the argumentative scope of the letter, which confronts "the self" and its double, where the search for legitimation of belonging is central. Finally, we will conclude with the repertoire of nuances of the forms of silence present in the work for a better understanding.
